Name: Zoë
Participant Year: 2019 Current Role: Co-Director (2026) What are you doing at the moment? I am now working as a teacher and studying my Masters of Teaching! What is the main lesson you have taken from RYLA? The main lesson I have taken away from RYLA is how to listen and be patient, as well as how the importance of taking time for myself. This has helped me to find balance and to connect more deeply with those in my community. RYLA has helped me on the journey to where I am now by connecting me with a network of people who want to grow and challenge themselves, a lot of whom share my values. I think sometimes it’s easy to get mixed up in all the noise and chaos of the world, but RYLA reminds me that this is not all the life has to offer; I can take new paths, try new things, make mistakes, learn and grow. How did RYLA help you on your journey to where you are now? I have been able to develop skills in communication, facilitation, self-regulation, leadership, conflict resolution, teamwork, and feel more confident in doing things that are outside my comfort zone. These skills and mindsets have assisted me in building meaningful connections with people, as well as helped me in every aspect of my life including work, hobbies, and my personal life. What would you say to someone who is thinking of applying for RYLA? Someone who is thinking of applying to RYLA - just do it. Worst case scenario it’s one week of your life that you don’t love. Best case scenario it will change your life.
