Who runs RYLA?
RYLA District 9800 is entirely run by people who are past participants of RYLA 9800. This passionate team of young people put together the program from years of experience, right down to planning and cooking the meals you eat. During the week our team keep the program running and look after the welfare of the participant group whilst professional speakers come to the site to deliver workshops, lectures and learning activities.
Our program is overseen by the District 9800 RYLA Committee, consisting primarily of Rotarians from District 9800 and past RYLArians or team members, is responsible for liaising with Rotary Clubs throughout the District regarding the RYLA program.
Committee members are: Jess Wheeler (Chairperson), Claire Bryan (Co-Director), Stephanie Serret (Co-Director), Wayne Hunter (Treasurer), Steve Marschall (Past RYLArian), Joel Hogarth (Past RYLArian).
The Committee is always looking for new members. If Rotarian's are interested they are always welcome to contact the chair to discuss.

Where do we sleep?
Participants will be housed in dormitory-style accommodation on site.
What do I need to bring?
Clothing - suitable for indoor and outdoor activities. The camp is held in the Dandenong Ranges where the temperature and weather fluctuate, so we advise bringing clothes suited to hot, cold and wet weather.
Bedding - pillow and pillowcase, sleeping bag (or warm blankets and sheets), and single fitted sheet. Because of the cold overnight temperatures in the mountains, we advise a sleeping bag.
Toiletries - personal toiletries, soap, towel(s) etc. There are bathrooms and showers attached to the cabins.
The RYLA Co-Directors will send out more information about what to bring in the lead up to the program.

But I want to know more...
The RYLA Program is hard to explain or define. Through this website, you will discover what RYLA has given to other young people. You will also find all the information you need to know in order to apply. However, there is not much information about what the program entails, and this is intentional. From years of experience and past participant feedback, we have found that people get the most out of RYLA when they arrive with an open mind to the week ahead. We know it is hard to commit to something you may not know much about, but RYLA is all about challenging yourself.
If you have any specific questions your nervous about your most welcome to contact us and the committee or our directors will get back to you.
We know that this leap of faith is well worth it.
